Durham North Carolina
Durham is the county seat of Durham County in North Carolina, United States. It is also referred to as “The City of Medicine” for its highly acclaimed educational and research institutions like Duke University (founded by James Buchanan Duke) and the Duke University Medical Center (the nation’s first academic medical center), as well as its world-class Research Park (part of the North Carolina Research Triangle) and the American Tobacco Historic District.
Durham is also known for its historic architecture, especially in the downtown area. This includes not only its award-winning public buildings and private residences, but also the Duke University Chapel, West Point on the Eno, NCCU’s Brickyard, Durham Athletic Park Monument Tower, Federal Street African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church Historic District Congregation Beth Israel, and the Durham Performing Arts Center.
