The largest city in North Carolina, Charlotte has a population of more than 750,000 residents. It’s located in the center of the state, between the Appalachian Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. According to census data from 2010, almost 80% of residents are white, nearly 19 percent are African American, about three percent are Hispanic or Latino, and nearly one percent are Asian. The most common ancestries include German (11 percent), Irish (nine percent) and English (seven percent).
